| A : | a plotter draws the image with ink onto vinyl. It can do fine detail in terms of colour, maybe even photographic quality. Then you need to cut around the edges. These are often known as CAD cutters. They print the image in ink onto a special white paper, then it cuts around the edge. A cutter uses a knife and actually cuts coloured vinyl. If you want multiple colours, you cut all the shapes then layer them to get an image. These images are more like pictures you would find in a young child"s colouring book - basic shapes in solid colours. Also used for shadowing or 2 - 3 colour letters. The problem is that multiple layers of vinyl become thick and bulky. |
